For far too long we have read about the plight of African animals. On our recent trip to East Africa this issue was right in front of us. We were able to see Mountain Gorillas, a species that sadly is extremely endangered with a wild population of only around 800. We had hoped to see Rhinos in south Tanzania but so few remain that they simply are not around the way they used to and are now severely endangered. We did see the gentleness and beautiful family life that elephants lead in the wild. The horrific stories of poaching and the pain that is inflicted on this species is enough to make the toughest person cry. For far too long we have abused many of these species for reasons that can only be qualified as superfluous and cruel entertainment. The opportunity to keep this biodiversity and its circle of life is in front of us. The opportunity to make greater conscience of this plight is ultimately an opportunity to save ourselves. This is an idea that many already believe in. Hopefully and even if in a small scale, we can continue to spread this belief and create real change.
